Fashion show raises funds for women’s centre in South Surrey

A charity fashion show to support a South Surrey women’s centre is back for its second year in the Semiahmoo Peninsula.

Sources Women’s Place in South Surrey is holding another fashion show on Thursday, April 25. The In her Shoes event will help the centre continue to provide free supports to thousands of women in the community, a press release says.

It has a fundraising goal of $100,000, increased from last year.

“Women’s Place is like an anchor for women as they feel welcomed and taken care of in a judgment-free environment,” Corina Carroll, executive director at Sources, said in a press release.

According to Sources’ website, nearly 3,000 women visited Women’s Place in 2023, receiving clothing, counselling, food and hygiene products. This number is three times higher than the previous year, with many of the people who access the service living on the streets or in their cars.

The fashion show, to be held at the West Coast Gardens, will see volunteers and clients from Sources Community Resources Society take to the catwalk dressed in clothing from Turnabout Luxury Resale, showcasing this year’s theme, New Beginnings.

“In Her Shoes not only inspires guests with stories of resilience but also offers an evening of fun through fashion, food and lots of shopping,” the release goes on to say.

In Her Shoes will include food stations, an entertaining show and floral bouquets for all guests in attendance to take home. Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased at www.sourcesbc.ca/events/in-her-shoes/
