BMW Reveals The New Concept Skytop Roadster With 617 HP

BMW envisions the future of open-top driving pleasure.

BMW is well-known and celebrated for its convertibles and roadsters, such as the historic 507, the intriguing Z1 with its retracting doors, the legendary Z8, and the modern Z4. However, a new BMW concept could be a vision of what the next generation of BMW’s roadsters will look like, and it’s called the BMW Concept Skytop. It’s a design study, debuting at the ultra-prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the glittering shores of Italy’s gorgeous Lake Como.

A two-seater concept, the Skytop features a muscular and elegant design, with luxury and sportiness integral to its character. Its inspirations include the iconic Z8 of the early 2000s and the historic 503. Crafted beautifully, the Skytop features a warm, monochromatic color scheme inside and out, with leather sport bars on the back and removable leather roof pieces.

In addition, the interior, which transitions seamlessly from the exterior, especially with the top open, features leather upholstery with timelessly luxurious brogue-style accents. Regarding performance, the Skytop takes another piece of inspiration from the BMW Z8 before it, using an engine derived from a BMW M car.

Rather than the naturally aspirated V8 that powered the Z8, the Skytop uses BMW’s 4.4-liter TwinPower turbocharged V8 engine derived from the BMW M8 Competition, boasting 617 horsepower. With power, sportiness, elegance, beauty, and luxury, the new BMW Concept Skytop is an exciting preview of what BMW’s future roadsters will be like.
