You can use old socks for many different things.

Socks always get lost in the washing machine. What can you use the remaining socks for? Old socks can be used in 50 different ways:

1. Baby Wash Cloth

Use an old, soft sock as a baby washcloth. Ball

Roll a sock up, place another sock on top of it, and then roll a third sock over that. The sock is twisted around the insides of the roll, and then folded back. This is a soft ball that can be used indoors or outdoors. Bath Mat

Cut off the toe of a sock and then cut a spiral strip of 1 inch until you reach cuff. Crochet strips to make placemats, bathmats, and hotplates. Fill baby socks with rice to make bean bags. To make a beanbag, sew the top shut.

5. Braided Rugs

Cut old socks into strips. Sew the strips together in long widths, almost like thick yarn. Use to make braided rugs. Cut the toes off old socks. To absorb moisture, place the socks over cans. Candles

Put taper candles in socks to prevent them from being damaged or scratched.

8. Cat Toy

Fill the end with catnip, then tie it off. Christmas Stocking

You do not need to buy a fancy Christmas stocking. Hang an old sock to be filled by Santa.

10. Dry Erase & Chalk Boards Cleaner

Wipe boards clean using an old sock.

11. Cup Warmer

Cut off the foot and slide it over cups to warm drinks. Also keeps cold drinks cold.

12. Decorate Vases

Pull socks with patterns over vases for decoration.

13. Dish Cloths

Cut off the toe of two socks that are approximately the same size. Cut the sock along the ankle, and then cut the toe off. Now you will have a tube with two ends. The tube can be cut into two pieces. Pin the two pieces together. Sew around all four edges; then sew an X from one corner to another and you have an instant dishcloth.

14. Toy for your dog

Tie knots at the ends of a tube sock. Use it to play tug of war with your dog.

15. Old socks can be used to make doll clothes.

Old sock pieces are great for kids.

16. Dusting

Use an old sock to dust. This makes it easier to reach corners.

17. If you do not have gloves, in an emergency put two old socks over your hands to keep them warm. Ice Packs

Put a small ice pack in an old sock. This will protect your skin. Jump Rope

Put the small pieces of the game in a sock so they will stay together. Place the sock into the game box.

21. Knee pads

Cut off the feet of old socks. Pull over legs and fold over at knees to create a cushioned pad for gardening.

22. Knitting Needle Case

Sew a tube sock’s mouth closed, and then cut off the toe. Insert it into another tube sock to double the thickness. You can use this thick case for knitting needles so they won’t stick through. Then, tie the end with a ribbon.

23. Ladder socks

Slip socks on top of ladders to prevent them from marking the surface they lean against. Leg Warmers

Cut off the feet of long socks. The cut sock can be pulled over your socks and up to your knee. Level Table

Put an old sock under the leg of a wobbly table to level it. Put an old sock underneath the leg of a wobbly desk to level it. Money

Place your bills in a colorful sock, and then place it into your sock draw. You will see it easily in your sock draw. Use a sock as a mop by cutting off the end and using it behind the toilet. When finished, throw the sock out or rewash it to reuse.

28. Mothballs

Place mothballs inside the sock, tie closed and hang in your closet. Throw out the old socks when you are done with them or if you want to replace the mothballs. Toys and Pillows

Cut old socks into small pieces to use as stuffing for pillows or toys. Polish Silverware

Use a sock to apply silverware polish. You can only use the socks a few times because they will be permanently stained by the polish. The silver will look gleaming and clean.

31. Potpourri Sachet

Fill the bottom with potpourri, and then either tie or sew the open end. Place in drawers.

32. Put old socks on golf clubs to protect.

Put the socks on top of golf clubs for protection.

33. Purse

You could make a change bag by attaching a purse latch to the end of an open baby sock.

34. Quilt

Cut up the socks to make patches for a quilt.

35. Rough Feet

Apply vaseline to your feet, then put on old socks. Wear them to bed. Your feet will feel softer the next day. Shining Shoes

Use your old socks to polish shoes and apply shoe polish. Use old socks to clean firearms and other metal equipment requiring a strong solvent.

37. Shoe Protection

Pull over shoes to protect from mud.

39. Shoe Freshener

Stuff with baking soda and put inside shoes to absorb odor.

40. Let kids make sock-puppets by decorating with craft materials. Stop Drafts

Fill cracks around windows and doors with socks to prevent drafts.

42. Storage

Store tennis balls, golf balls and small balls in a sock. Tall Boots

Stuff socks with newspaper, and place them in your boots. This will keep the socks from slipping. Newspaper will absorb moisture.

44. Trees

Tie new trees to stakes with old socks. This can be done with other tall plants, like tomatoes.

45. Umbrella

Slip on a tube sock over an umbrella that is wet to absorb water. Remove the tube sock when you arrive home, or your umbrella may become moldy.

46. Wash & Wax Car

Use a sock to wash your car. Use a second sock to wax the car.

47. Wax Furniture

Use a sock to apply wax to furniture.

48. Wet Shoes

Place the clay cat litter into two socks. Do not use the modern clumping kind. Tie or sew up the ends. Place inside the shoes. Clay cat litter will absorb moisture, allowing the shoes to dry faster. Windshield Wipers

Put sock over windshield wipers prior to a freezing. You will not need to scrape if you remove the socks.

50. Wrist Support

Fill to comfort with split peas, lentils, or rice and then sew the end up and place either for wrist support for key board, or make a smaller one to use for comfort support for your wrist when using mouse.
