“Write Harper with Love” by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, “Industry” Creators.

The high-octane portrayal of Pierpont Investment Bank’s young recruits wrestling with their consciences while trying to advance their financial career has made Industry one of the most popular TV dramas in the last three years.

The third season of the HBO/BBC Drama is currently being aired in the UK. A fourth has already been commissioned. Mickey Down and Konrad Kay are screenwriters who were in the finance sector before switching to screenwriting. They focus on three recruits, Harper (Myha’la), Yasmin, (Marisa Abela), and Robert, (Harry Lawtey).

BBC reports that Down & Kay revealed that they intentionally write about characters in that world with the least power. They have a special sympathy for Harper, an American black woman who works in London.

Down claims that there are different ceilings for each person, and that race, gender and background can have a big impact on your ability to be successful. This is why they portray Harper as a character who can sometimes be kind, and other times ruthless “with love.”

Down “says. People throw a lot at these characters. They insult them sometimes, and especially Harper. They say she is awful, she is heinous or selfish. We write her from a place of understanding.

“We wrote her as a young, black woman from a disadvantaged family who is incredibly ambitious and will go to any lengths to achieve her goals. That is exciting.”
