What Time Does the Parade Start?
The parade starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs for a full 3 1/2 hours, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade takes place in New York City. The parade begins on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and concludes at Macy’s Herald Square flagship store on 34th Street, which serves as both a stage and backdrop for performances.

According to Macy’s, the parade was not held in 1942, 1943, and 1944 due to World War II.Originally a Christmas event, the parade featured floats, bands, animals from the zoo, and 10,000 onlookers, as described on Macy’s history page. The parade ended with Santa Claus’ arrival and the unveiling the Christmas windows of the Macy’s store. The event was officially renamed Thanksgiving Day Parade three years later. The parade was first televised by NBC in New York in 1946, and nationally the following year.
