What should Marvel do about Blade?
Marvel hasn’t made a decision on any of them, but that hasn’t stopped Ryan Reynolds from trying to get the ball rolling for at least one of the big supporting players. Marvel hasn’t made a call either way on basically any of them, it seems, but that hasn’t stopped Ryan Reynolds from trying to get the ball rolling on at least one of the big supporting players.
Recently, Reynolds took to Instagram to hype up Wesley Snipes’ record-breaking return as Blade, saying his arrival on the film “is the most intense thing l’ve heard in a theater. The sound of people screaming in uninhibited love and joy is also a legacy.” This would be a huge, heartwarming thing on its own given their rocky relationship while filming Blade Trinity. Reynolds demanded “more Blade please.” Things escalated. Let’s pretend that this Logan-style send-off doesn’t count anymore because of the billion-dollar-grossing film. The statement is a bit controversial, but it’s understandable, given that Snipes said there was “only one Blade” in the movie. Marvel has been working on a new Blade for the past five years, and Mahershala had only one chance to portray the character in an Eternals post-credits sequence. The progress of the Blade film has been… not well to be charitably honest. The most recent setback was the departure of Yann Demange in June. This alleged movie is a joke and a sign that Marvel has lost its edge since the Infinity Saga concluded half a decade back. The audience would love it and I know I would. Especially if the fight scene was set to Crystal Method’s “Name of the Game.” Deadpool & Wolverine proves that this idea is a winner. Marvel will be happy to have another nostalgic hit. It’s cynical to suggest that studios should follow this standard procedure when they start losing money. It’s not ideal to focus on just one character. This has been an issue for Fox and MCU. Snipes’ next Blade movie won’t be able to erase the baggage from the MCU film-to-be. Ali and the rest of the cast and crew will also look like idiots. We can all agree that it would be sensible for Marvel to stop overcomplicating a movie about a guy fighting vampires with a sword. Want more io9 News? Want more io9 news?
