We Save Ourselves During the Next Administration

Happy New Year, and welcome back to another year of The Fallout! Let’s start.
Even if the administration hasn’t officially changed, we’re already in the second Donald Trump period. As much as I hate to say it, I do not intend to spend the next 4 years focusing on every indignity and humiliation the Trump administration has inflicted on the country and the world. What’s on my mind as we stare down the fascism that’s already here is one deceptively simple phrase that got us through the first Trump administration: We save ourselves.
Community is the antidote to fascism. You can ask anyone who has worked on abortion fund hotlines or provided reproductive health care, including abortion, to people in banned states. They have also supported and defended patients and providers before Roe V. Wade was overturned. This current wave of authoritarianism is not different. As it is often the case with authoritarianism, attacks on body autonomy are a soft launch. The incoming Trump administration will also try to divide the country. This includes Rewire News Group. The mainstream media has shown that it is unprepared to deal with the current situation. The same is true for much of the Democratic leadership.
But we are.
I don’t know exactly what the next four years will bring, but I can promise you our coverage will not shy away from calling it as it is. We will not shy away from calling it as it is. I don’t know what the next four years will bring, but you can be sure that our coverage won’t.
