Tuner Swaps V8 under the Hood of AMG C63 SE Performance
A tuner in Austria has recently revealed a solution to those who are complaining about the downgraded powertrain on the Mercedes-AMG C63S E Performance (W206). Vision Ultimate Kraft (VUK), a tuner based in Austria, offers to replace the engine of its Mercedes-AMG S E Performance with a V8.
On the surface, it appears that Mercedes-AMG’s C63S E Performance has surpassed its predecessor. The plug-in hybrid engine delivers 671 horsepower and 752 lb.-ft. of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. The figures are a significant boost from its previous iteration’s 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque with 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 3.7 seconds.
AMG’s decision to downgrade the new C63 S E Performance’s ICE from the fan-favorite 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to a 2.0-liter inline-four hybrid triggered furor from the loyal followers of the brand, though. VUK then decided to swap its four-pot motor for the eight-pot version. It wasn’t easy, though. VUK has said that it is more than willing and able to continue working on engine transplants to fit the AMG C63S E Performance. The base unit costs EUR88K ($86K). After that, they have to pay the tuner to source a V8 donor.
Besides the previous AMG C63 S, the new AMG G63 and W213 AMG E63 all share the coveted engine.
