The New Way to Make Resolutions for the New Year
I used to do this every year
. It was a good feeling to make all of these New Year Resolutions. Create a course for home study. Visit my children more often. Take a trip with my husband. When I looked at the list I was surprised. I was not inspired, but rather energized. Huh? Why wasn’t I excited? Then a line from A Course in Miracles popped into my head. Why was I not excited?
Then I heard a quote from A Course in Miracles “Seek Not Outside Yourself… For You Will Surely Fail.” I realized that I would never be able to achieve what I truly wanted if I kept looking ‘outside myself’ or specifying where I could find it. New Year’s Eve 1995
. To the top of my to-do list is: Finish my first novel. It’s not because I enjoy writing. As a published writer, I would finally feel important. But two years later, as I walked past a bookshop, my book was displayed in the window. I waited for that moment to come. Instead, I felt nothing!Looking back at that memory, I now realize that what I’m really wanting isn’t actually a tangible goal. This is how I want to feel when I achieve it. Enjoy the joy of creating something new with my team. Spending more time with my family. And to feel connected to my soul, healthy in my body and experience extended periods of inner peace.
Reading these now, I feel energized and excited for whatever unexpected events or unimagined opportunities the universe may bring.
What if you did the same? Rewrite resolutions by listing the feelings that you want to experience, without insisting on knowing how to achieve them. Comment below with your thoughts.
