The most exclusive (and expensive) M4 ever : Automotive Addicts

Automotive

BMW’s high-performance M division has a long history of building special-edition models, but the 2025 BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 takes exclusivity to a new level. This ultra-rare M4 pays homage to Rossi’s legendary MotoGP career and his iconic 46 number. The M4 CS Edition VR46, which is limited to only 92 units, is based on BMW’s exclusive M4 CS but features a number of cosmetic upgrades to make it a collector’s piece. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive, allowing for blistering acceleration:

0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds

0-124 mph in 11.1 seconds

Electronically limited top speed of 188 mph

  • But while the performance remains unchanged, the visual enhancements make this M4 truly one-of-a-kind. The VR46 Edition is available in two exclusive colors:
  • Marina Bay Blue Metallic
  • Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic (matte finish)

Only 46 cars will be produced in each color, further reinforcing the significance of Rossi’s racing number. BMW added Sao Paulo Yellow accents to complete the bold appearance, which was inspired by Rossi’s fluorescent yellow racing gear. The number 46 has been hand-painted onto the exterior while Valentino Rossi’s autograph is on the roof. Additional “VR46” badging is present on the doorsills, seats, and rear fascia, ensuring there’s no mistaking the special status of this model.

  • A Price Tag to Match Its Exclusivity
  • At $155,000, the M4 CS Edition VR46 is a whopping $31,500 more expensive than the standard M4 CS (which was already limited to 1,700 units). It also costs $15,100 more than the track-focused M4 CSL, which featured a lighter, two-seater configuration and was capped at just 1,000 units.

To put that into perspective:

The base BMW 430i Coupe starts at around $50,000, meaning the VR46 Edition is three times the price.

Even the M4 Competition xDrive, which shares a similar powertrain, is nearly $80,000 cheaper.

That makes the M4 CS Edition VR46 the most expensive M4 ever built. It’s not the most expensive M4 in BMW history. The M4 CS Edition VR46 comes with a VIP experience with Valentino. The BMW M4 CS Edition VR46, with only 92 worldwide units and an unknown number for the U.S. market, is one of most exclusive M4s ever produced. The BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 is one of the most exclusive models ever built. With only 92 units available worldwide and an undisclosed number allocated for the U.S., it could become a collector’s item in the future.
