The download: Inside animals’ minds and how AI agents can be useful
Studying the minds of animals presents a unique challenge: your subjects cannot tell you what’s on their mind. To get answers from animals scientists must come up with innovative experiments to understand why they behave in the way that they do. This can sometimes require designing and building equipment from scratch. These contraptions range from simple to complex but are all designed to answer questions about specific species. Honeybees: Do they need to sleep well? Jumping spiders like what? Are falcons puzzle lovers? Off-the-shelf equipment is not enough to answer questions like this. These custom-built contraptions were built by scientists to better understand the minds and lives of the animals that they study. This article is from the latest print issue of MIT Technology Review. How ChatGPT search paves the way for AI agents
It’s been a busy few weeks for OpenAI. ChatGPT, a chatbot that allows users to perform internet searches, was launched by OpenAI in conjunction with its Realtime API platform. This will enable developers to create apps and voice assistants faster. These AI assistants are capable of completing complex tasks such as booking a flight. OpenAI will build its own agents and also allow developers to use the software to create their own agents. Voice will be a key factor in how agents look and feel.
