EvolveYou, formerly Tone and Sculpt, is my go-to workout app. As a fitness fanatic who has been going to the gym regularly for seven years, I have tried many workout programs and apps. This is the one I keep coming back to. This app lets you customize your fitness program to the point where it feels as if your personal trainer created it. You can choose from a variety of coaches who specialize in different areas such as strength training, endurance and barre. The number of sessions per week you wish to complete (three or five), your level (beginner or intermediate), the equipment you prefer (you can choose whether you’ll be exercising at home or at a gym), and nutrition preferences can all be selected. Depending on the program you select, you can expect the duration to be anywhere from eight weeks (yoga) to 67 weeks (strength training).
Once you’ve selected the program that best fits your goals and lifestyle, you’ll see your dashboard, where you can find your weekly planner showing the workout routines by day of the week. You can add or remove workouts from your planner, and you can also change the order in which they appear. Each exercise is accompanied by a short video and description to ensure you are doing it correctly. The meal planner is one of my favorites features in this app. You can select from four different types of diet: standard (best suited for omnivores), vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian. You can either input your meals into the meal planner to track how much you eat each day or ask the app do it for. The app will provide you with a shopping list, as well as recipes, if you choose to let it plan your meals. The majority of these recipes can be prepared in 15 to 20 minutes and are easy to follow. When my gym shut down the beginning of the pandemic, I made my way to the Melissa Wood Health Method. Melissa Wood-Tepperberg was my Instagram follower for two years and I had taken her Pilates classes on occasion. After I lost my gym membership, I decided to subscribe to Melissa Wood-Tepperberg’s app because I loved her classes and inspiring content. The workouts were so good that I decided to continue my membership after the free seven-day trial. You’re asked to choose an intention at the start of every practice. The idea behind the method is to work toward a stronger body and build a better relationship with yourself.
This app has an extensive selection of workouts to choose from, and every Monday a new workout is uploaded. The MWH Method videos range from 10 to 30 minute long and incorporate low-impact Pilates and Yoga movements. Do not be misled by the word “low-impact”. This does not mean that it is easy or requires little effort. Your muscles will be burning from the subtle movements and repeated repetitions. As part of her warm-ups, she will also include dance moves to get you motivated. The program also offers guided meditations and pre- and after-natal exercises, as well as beginner workouts.

You can choose to customize your nutrition plan according to your preferences. Choose from keto, vegetarian or a standard diet. Do not worry, my vegan friends. There is no official vegan option but if you choose the vegetarian option you can eliminate foods such as honey, eggs, and milk to make your plan vegan friendly. Similar to WeightWatchers’ point system, StrongHer assigns points for each food in your nutrition plan. Each food is given a certain number of points, based on the calories, fats and proteins. Your personalized nutrition plan will determine the number of points in your daily budget. This app is unique because it allows you to track your progress over time. If you document it in the app, you’ll see historical data about your physical activity progress, calorie intake and water intake. The app will show you your historical data on physical activity, water intake, and calorie intake if you record it. You decide how much weight you want to use. The app won’t recommend a specific amount. Each exercise has a brief video demonstration and an outline in case you are unfamiliar with the movement or want more guidance.

Alo Moves is a yoga app from parent company Alo Yoga — yes, the trendy brand responsible for getting us all hooked on the famous Alo Yoga Goddess Leggings. This app offers a wide variety of yoga classes. It’s what I love most about it. With your membership, you get access to four different workout categories:
fitness
(Barre, HIIT, Core, Pilates, Stretching and Stretch), yoga
(ashtanga, vinyasa, kundalini, hatha, restorative and prenatal),

(breathwork, meditation, personal growth and sound bath) and

This app has a feature that I find particularly interesting. It suggests classes based on the classes and answers you have given. Imagine Netflix recommending certain shows or films based on your previous viewing habits. My instructors in the restorative series were so calming that I started making yoga a part of my daily routine. The teachers of vinyasa or kundalini classes, on the other hand are so energetic that they make you feel ready to face the day. There is a class to suit every mood. It’s important to note that while most instructors describe the poses they assume you already know them. Beginners may find it difficult to follow the classes. Alo Moves classes are similar to studio classes, but you can go at your own pace. It offers a free 14-day trial.
