The Best Toiletry Bags Tested and Review (2024).

There are many great toiletry bags that we tested, but their features or designs didn’t quite add up. State Bags Benson Kit for $68:

This is a simple, solid bag that has three mesh pouches, a snap-in/snap out plastic envelope, and can hold items such as soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. The navy version that I tested was made of recycled bottles and coated polyester exterior. I also liked the fact that I could hang it. The organization of this bag was less sophisticated than other bags from the same category we tested. It also lacked thoughtful features like a pouch for quick access on the back or a hook with a rubberized tip to keep it from slipping. The thick, small hook on this bag was not wide enough to be hung from a towel rack. The July Hanging Toiletry Bag is $85 and comes with a zippered pouch on the back. I love my carry-on suitcase from this brand, so was eager to try their popular hanging toiletry bags. The design is great with a zippered pouch at the back and a body which zips flat and reveals PVC and pouch zip pockets, as well as a large rubber-tipped metal tuckaway hook. The bag looks stylish and well-made with gunmetal hardware and leather trim, but when my husband tested it at home, it was found to have very small pockets. This confirmed my concern. It wouldn’t be an issue if the bag itself were small, but it took up a full quarter of the carry-on.

Fjallraven Kanken Toiletry Bag for $55: I love this thing, which makes me feel like a Red Cross nurse on the battlefields of World War II. The bag is made of a proprietary Fjallraven blend, which combines organic polyester with recycled cotton. It feels like fabric yet is waterproof and durable. The clamshell style has a strong plastic interior hook. The quart-sized bottles go in the lower compartment with the zip, the toothbrush and deodorant are stored in the upper compartment. There are also mesh pockets and MOLLE web to make sure that you can see your small items. It’s very large so it might not work for minimalists who only have a toothbrush and comb. This clear cosmetics case is available for $85 from Adrienne So

Calpak. It’s made primarily of wipe-clean, water-resistant PVC. The case zips around the entire perimeter and unfolds to reveal two zippered pockets and a smaller zippered bag. The 16 fashionable color options and dual handles make it look like a small purse. However, contents aren’t as easy to access as other cosmetic cases that just open from the top–you have to lay the Calpak flat to open both sides, which requires a 16-by-10-inch footprint, and the all-clear construction isn’t very discreet.Sympl Dopp Kit for $75:

I liked this bag’s durable Cordura exterior and stow-away clip for hanging, as well as the fact it has a lifetime warranty. The bag is opened clamshell style to reveal four waterproof zip pockets: two thin and horizontal, a small rectangle and a larger rectangle. This is a great idea but it severely limits the user’s utility as they are limited to toiletry products of a specific size that will fit into each pocket. My deodorant and toothbrush did not fit in the pockets. The Lululemon Dopp Kit Command the Day is available for $48. The bag is made of recycled polyester, and the bottom mesh compartment has enough space to hold full-sized items. The bag does not lay flat or hang open fully, nor can it stand up by itself. It therefore takes up a large footprint (roughly 8 x 11 inches) on the counter. During the testing period I was frustrated several times trying to get at my toiletries, particularly in the lower mesh compartment. The bag is unable to lay flat, so items are often rolled out of this compartment.
