The 5 Best Hotels In Quebec City (Updated for 2024).

Quebec is beautiful. It’s often overlooked by tourists in favour of larger destinations such as Toronto and Montreal. However, it was here that European explorers arrived for the first time in the 16th century. The Old Town of Quebec City, the capital of Quebec and a cultural center in the province, is one of North America’s best preserved. As a history and foodie, Quebec City is my favorite city. No matter what season you visit, it’s always a great place to be. The winter is especially stunning. Some hotels are fantastic and will enhance your experience. Some will.

Here’s my list to help you get the most out of your trip.

1. Hotel AtypiQ

Opened by 2022, the new three-star property offers a great value for its location. The hotel has a unique concept, offering small rooms just large enough to fit a bed that folds out from the wall. The rooms are minimalist with lots of light and natural light. There are also a few wood accents. Bathrooms are also small, but new and feature rainfall showerheads and complimentary toiletries. They also have cool murals in the shower walls. There are no amenities in the room (just a TV), but you have access to a kitchen and terrace where you can prepare food. There is a basic free breakfast (fruits, bread, meats), but you must prepare it yourself in the shared kitchen. This is a very efficient hotel, which almost feels like a dormitory. It’s an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers who want the privacy and comfort of a private bathroom and room.

2. Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

This hotel is one of the most iconic sights in the city (if not the entire country). The luxurious Chateau was opened in 1893 and is so iconic that even those who are not staying there can enjoy guided tours. This five-star luxury hotel makes you feel like you are living in an historic palace. The lobby of this hotel is opulent with its dazzling chandeliers, winding staircases and classic style. The rooms are spacious and stylish, but I feel that the carpet is a bit bland and the color scheme of the room makes them seem dated. The amenities in the room include a desk, coffee maker, and a rain shower. The Chateau is also home to several restaurants and bars, as well as a spa and steam room, an indoor pool and hot tub. Breakfast is expensive but amazing with a variety of choices for every diet.

3. Hotel du Jardin-Par Les Lofts

This 3-star hotel offers spacious loft apartments that are perfect for families or groups (or for anyone who wants a little more space than a standard hotel room). The contactless check-in system and passcode entry make it feel like you’re staying at an Airbnb. The lofts have a minimalistic design, with wooden accents and light colors. There are also large grayscale animal pictures on the walls. There are desks, flatscreen TVs, coffee makers and soft beds in the brightly tiled bathrooms. It’s an excellent choice for groups or couples who need more space. It’s a great choice if you plan to stay longer in the city. This trendy neighborhood is more local than the Old Town.

4. Auberge J.A Moisan

Take a trip back in time to the Victorian era of Quebec with this charming bed-and breakfast. The B&B has been decorated in a similar style to the original mid-19th-century B&B, including floral duvets and colorful wallpaper. It also features exposed bricks and wood. The continental breakfast is fantastic (there are croissants!) You can relax in the Victorian parlor or on the terrace. Or, you can prepare your own food in the guest kitchen. The rooms are small and have few amenities. For example, the rooms do not have TVs, but there is a Roku stick-equipped one in the parlour. These cozy rooms feature super comfortable beds, antique lamps and period furniture. Many even have claw-foot bathtubs in their bathrooms. It’s not very large, but it makes up for that in charm and customer service. It’s a unique stay in the city.

5. Chateau des Tourelles

This cute three-star inn is just a 10-minute walk from the Old Town. The rooms have been tastefully decorated with lots of natural light and hardwood floors. They also feature colorful walls, exposed brick, and colorful wallpaper. The rooms all have a flatscreen TV, a desk and incredibly comfortable beds. If you want to splash out, some of the suites come with a jacuzzi and a terrace. The breakfast is not included, but you can get coffee/tea in the communal area and a Nespresso in each room. There are also many dining options within walking distance. You can also reserve a parking space if you own a car. Check-in can be done digitally here, making it convenient for those who arrive at odd hours.
