The 10 Best Places to Find Cash While Walking
I mentioned a while ago that I enjoy looking for money as I walk. I get at least $50 per year, and probably over $100 on average (it helps that I live in Japan with its $1 and $5 coinage). It’s not about finding money. Finding money walking is not about finding money
While it may be hard to understand, it’s really not about the cash. They always come back a week later and say that they didn’t find anything. You won’t usually find anything. If you’re not looking for money, it is likely that you wouldn’t find any if you hadn’t been searching. The people who are successful in this regard it more like a game. There are some differences, even though I think they’ll work well for those in other countries. One is that I walk more in Japan (which increases my chances) than I do in the US. Here are my top 10 places to find money while walking:
Top Ten Places To Find Cash While Walking
10. The sidewalk is often overlooked by people who walk. Many people don’t notice money on the sidewalk. You will find coins if you keep your eyes on the pavement while walking. Gutters: This might only be applicable to countries like Japan where many people ride scooters. If I walk along the sidewalk edge so that I can look into the gutter, my chances of finding money are increased. After a heavy rain, gutters are a great place to check. Most people want to get in their car quickly, and they often forget about dropped coins.
8. When crossing the street, I am always looking for coins at intersections and crosswalks. It seems that the coins tend to collect here rather than along the gutters and sidewalks of the main part of the street. Train/Subway Stations: These public transportation stations are good places to find coins. Coins fall to the ground as people take out their money to pay for tickets. Phones used to be an excellent place to find coins. I would have put it higher on my list had I written this five years ago. Phone booths are becoming less common as more people carry cell phones. It’s still worth looking since coins do drop out and people forget to put them in the phone.
5. Stores: When people go to stores, they’re there to purchase things. They take money from their pockets to pay. Not all coins are found when they fall. You will occasionally find a coin if you keep your eyes peeled along the corners and sides. It is particularly true at checkout stations in places such as Target and Kroger. Parking lots: I will cut through parking lots to find coins, not to save time or to reduce distance. Parking lots are a great place to look for coins. It is often because people accidentally find coins when they dig into their pockets to get their keys. Self-Pay Parking Devices: I pay extra attention to parking lots that have self-pay machines as people exit. It’s because people often dig in their pockets, and can accidentally drop coins. The person is usually unaware of this. They just leave. This coin will be mine when the timing is just right.
2. Vending Machines. There are many vending machines around most cities. Simply looking at them for a year will yield you a lot of coins. It’s especially true during winter, when people wear gloves and it is cold (I find more coins in the winter than in the summer) or when it rains. The weather makes it more likely that they will drop a coin without realizing. I am sure I could find more if I looked under the vending machine (they have special tools for that in Japan), but I can’t bring my self to do it.
1. Vending Machine Coin Return Slots: I find the most coins in the slot for vending machine coin returns. As mentioned above, winter is the best time to find coins because people are wearing gloves and don’t feel them.
