
Sonja O’Hara To Direct Feature ‘Cottagecore’
EXCLUSIVE: Emmy-nominated filmmaker and actress Sonja O’Hara has signed on to direct the feature project Cottagecore, which Verve Ventures and UTA Independent Film Group will introduce to buyers at the upcoming Tribeca Creators Market.
Verve and UTA will co-represent North American sales of the film.
Cottagecore is among the twelve narrative films invited to the annual Tribeca Film Festival Creators Forum & Market. Sony Pictures Classics has previously participated in the market, as have Neon, HBO and Plan B.
Cottagecore’s synopsis is: When jealousy, resentment, and violence simmer at a Gen Z polyamorous intimacy retreat, the weekend devolves into chaos.
Bec Smith, of Anonymous Content, will executive produce. The producers are O’Hara, Phok (Stake Land), Independent Spirit Award winner Corey Moosa and Michael K. Dwyer for A Group of Ferrets. Zach Hagen for Pink Flamingos Films is Emmy-nominated for What We Do in Shadows. Sabrina Munik for Locked.
O’Hara, a Canadian actor and genre creator, is also a genre creator. Independent Magazine had previously named her a “Filmmaker To watch”. Barry Jenkins, the director of Moonlight, was a past recipient. O’Hara’s debut feature, Root Letter, starred Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick). She will also direct Harvey Keitel, Rita Moreno and her psychological thriller Theirs.
