Singer’s New 911 Carrera Coupe Justifies the Hype: Automotive Addicts

Automotive

For years, the name Singer evoked equal parts awe and skepticism. The design, craftsmanship and respect for the air-cooled Porsche legacy wowed enthusiasts. The question that always lingered for those who were on the outside reading specs and watching prices soar was: is a Singer worth it? We have spoken to owners, asked trusted automotive journalists for their opinions, and studied the components of one of these builds. We get it. Singer’s experience goes beyond nostalgia. It’s a reimagining of perfection.

Singer’s latest chapter pays homage to a hidden gem in Porsche’s lineage, the widebody, naturally aspirated G-series 911s from the 1980s. It was known as the Super Sport Equipment Package in the 1980s. This oddity had the look and feel of a Turbo 930 without the boost. Singer builds on that concept and creates a brand new car powered by an advanced 4.0-liter flat-six engine, developed in collaboration with Cosworth, and boasting 420 horsepower. The engine revs up to 8000 rpm and breathes through titanium exhaust. It also uses an innovative combination air-cooled cylinders with water-cooled head. That’s engineering wizardry worthy of Mezger’s legacy.

Underneath, the soul of the Type 964 lives on, but this is no simple restomod. Red Bull Advanced Technologies – yes, that Red Bull – provided input for chassis strengthening. Carbon fiber bodywork is lighter and stiffer while also reducing weight. The suspension is race-grade, with electronic dampers, four-way adjustable, a nose-lift system, and even carbon-ceramic braking if desired. It’s all wrapped up in a rear-wheel-drive, six-speed manual gearbox. Just as the gods intended. The paint and upholstery are all customized. Velvet corduroy in Mars Pink? The car is made to order. If you cannot decide whether you want the classic whale-tail or a motorsports-inspired splitter/wing, then you can get both. Literally. Singer will offer interchangeable bodywork for custom flight cases. Both are mounted on 18-inch white center-lock wheels. The two cars are unique expressions of the owner’s vision. They have been curated to the last stitch in hand-burnished black leather. It’s not just about performance metrics. The way owners and journalists talk about their cars is also very interesting. It’s all about the emotional connection. Each Singer is an ode to analog driving. They’re not just pretty. It feels right. It’s impossible to ignore, but it’s difficult to quantify. Once, we questioned whether Singer’s reputation had been inflated by exclusivity and hype. We now see the light. And while we haven’t driven one ourselves yet, we’re holding out hope that someday we’ll get to row through the gears of a Singer masterpiece and experience that relentless pursuit of excellence firsthand.

Until then, we’ll keep admiring from afar. Singer’s 911 Carrera Coupe is a car that deserves to be admired.
