Social media is inundated with Family Guy memes, and a particular one involving The Godfather resurfaces occasionally.

Seth MacFarlane explained the origins of “it insists on itself” meme, which fans often quote, in a recent social media post.
MacFarlane posted a “fun fact” on X, formerly Twitter, because the trending topic was “It insists upon itself”. My college film history teacher used the phrase “It insists on itself” to explain why The Sound of Music wasn’t a good film. “First-rate teacher but I didn’t quite follow that one.”

Peter Griffin tells his family in Season 4, Episode 27 titled “Untitled Griffin Family History” that he doesn’t like The Godfather.

Chris, Peter’s son, asks: “How could you say that?
Lois says, “Peter it’s the perfect movie.”
Peter continues, “And that’s what everyone says,” he adds.
Chris lists all the actors who appeared in the movie, including Robert De Niro Al Pacino and Robert Duvall.
Peter replies, “It insists on itself.” When Lois asks him why he didn’t like the movie, he says, “It demands attention.”
Lois asks Peter for clarification. Peter replies, “It’s a long time to get in and you have to spend six and a quarter hours. Then… I can’t make it through.” I can’t finish the film. “I’ve never seen it.”
Peter is criticized for his opinion of a film he has not seen. He then mentions “the scene where all the men are sitting on easy chairs” as “not a good scene.” He adds, “I don’t know what they’re saying.” It’s as if they are speaking a foreign language. “That’s when I lose interest and go away.”
Chris says they are speaking Italian. Lois adds: “The language that they speak is subtle, something you do not understand.”
Peter finishes his review by mentioning that he enjoys The Money Pit (1986), a comedy directed by Richard Benjamin and starring Tom Hanks, Shelley Long, and starring Richard Benjamin.
