Saturday Night Live pays tribute to Quincy Jones
Saturday Night Live paid tribute to Quincy Jones who passed away earlier this week.
The venerable NBC program paid tribute to the legendary musical artist, who passed away at age 91, by presenting a card towards the end of the episode.
Jones previously hosted SNL back in February 1990. Jones was promoting the Back on the Block Album and appeared with many musical guests, including Kool Moe Dee Melle Mel Quincy D III.
Jones’s show is still regarded as a record-breaker, with 10 performers.
During his monologue, he also paid tribute Nelson Mandela who was due to be released hours after the show.
Fun fact: Dana Carvey was part of the cast when Jones was hosting.
Jones’ oeuvre spanned over seven decades, from producing Michael Jackson’s Thriller, to working with Frank Sinatra on numerous occasions, to producing The Color Purple for the big screen, and composing the most memorable music in film and television.
He also convinced Miles Davis, three months prior to the jazz legend’s death, to record Miles & Quincy Live at Montreux.
He is the father of seven children, including Parks and Recreation and Angie Tribeca alum Rashida. He has written music and scores for dozens of movies, including In the Heat of the Night and In Cold Blood.
