Mike Myers makes a statement with “Canada is not for sale” shirt on SNL
Mike Myers, a famous Canadian actor, has made his position on Donald Trump’s plan to make Canada into the 51st U.S. state clear.
Myers, who was standing next to Shane Gillis (the episode’s host), opened his vest and revealed his T-shirt. It read “Canada is Not for Sale” along with a large Canadian Flag.
It’s not the first time SNL has had guests make political statements at the curtain call. Michael Keaton, Billie Eilish and others wore TV-shirts with the words Vote in October last year. This is the second consecutive SNL show for Myers, who appeared in the SNL50 Anniversary Special two weeks ago and reprised his classic Linda Richman role. Martin Short, a fellow SNL alumnus and Canadian, crashed Steve Martin’s special opening monologue, where Martin, referencing recent tensions between the U.S.and Canada, asked ICE to arrest Short.
As Short pleaded with officers to not take him, he listed some Canadian actors, including Jim Carrey and Catherine O’Hara.
