Mercedes-Benz Teams Up With Starbucks For New EV Charging Points
Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks team up to help cars and their drivers recharge.
Electrification has been the biggest driving force of change in the automotive industry in recent years, but one looming question has remained a persistent and paramount concern: charging. Combustion engine-powered vehicles benefit from a longstanding, established network of gas stations for drivers to fuel up, but as the industry transitions towards electrified vehicles, the question of where to refuel is slightly more difficult to answer.
Mercedes-Benz has forged a partnership with one of the country’s most ubiquitous coffee shops in order to solve the issue: Starbucks. Together, the two partners will provide solutions for EV owners to recharge, both themselves and their cars. Mercedes-Benz plans to expand its EV charging network to include 100 Starbucks locations. The idea behind partnering with Starbucks is to integrate otherwise inconvenient EV charging into a place involved in daily life. For instance, you can charge your car, and get a cup of coffee while you’re at it.
The first phase of the program will see the charging location located along I-5, a crucial interstate highway for West Coast drivers that spans from Canada to Mexico. As the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks continues, the historic luxury manufacturer will hopefully continue using Starbucks’ network of coffee shops to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure, which will prove as an important investment in the future of the automotive industry.
