Lightspeed L.A. reaches an agreement with SAG AFTRA on AI Protections

Lightspeed L.A. a new studio within Tencent’s Lightspeed & Quantum Studio Group, has signed an agreement with SAG-AFTRA to implement AI protections in their upcoming games. The agreement allows Lightspeed L.A. the ability to use union workers, even if SAG-AFTRA is on strike. This was a decision made by the guild just over a week ago.

The strike was over the use generative AI products in video games, which could replace the work of actors. Lightspeed L.A. is implementing protections that the union had asked for, but the parties are currently not making specifics public beyond that a deal has been made.

Lightspeed L.A. is currently working on Last Sentinel, a neo-futuristic apocalyptic game that — with a small hint of irony — takes place against the backdrop of technology run amok. The first CG trailer for Last Sentinel debuted at The Game Awards 2023. The agreement with SAG-AFTRA also applies to future projects by the studio and Last Sentinel. Stay informed!
