The ads were often outdated or irrelevant to the user — especially given they usually owned the games in question.PlayStation quickly rolled out a fix and assured users this was a bug introduced in a major update, not a change in its advertising strategy. It’s a good way to see how the players would react if PlayStation made a similar change. It’s safe to say that they were not happy. Some users went so far as to say that these full-page promotional images made them stop using their PS5s. The second complaint was that the news and ads displayed in the new display were often outdated and not relevant. Some users pointed out that these posts could be particularly annoying when playing older games as they may contain spoilers or simply be outdated. Users who noticed the change were very clear that they didn’t like having ads in their dashboards. This bug could be used as a valuable case study for PlayStation to consider fullscreen ads. Since it’s officially the Halloween season, I may try Zoochosis, a atmospheric indie horror game that has been circulating online.
