James Cameron says the next ‘Avatar” film will be the longest yet

James Cameron, the director of the third Avatar film, which is scheduled to be released in December, has said that the film’s running time will be the longest so far.
Cameron, who made Titanic and other films that lasted more than three hours, was never accused of cutting corners in recent years. The Way of Water in 2022, his previous Avatar movie, clocks in at three hours and twelve minutes.
Disney is set to release Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19. Cameron gave his opinion in an interview to UK-based movie outlet Empire.

Cameron stated, “In essence, we had crammed too many good ideas into the first act of Movie 2.” In retrospect, The Way of Water “moved like a fast bullet train and we didn’t drill down enough on characters.” So I told the guys, “Guys, let’s split it.

Movie 3 is actually a bit longer than Movie 2.”

The first Avatar movie in 2009 ran for 2 hours and 42 minutes.
The first two Avatars combined have grossed more than $5 billion worldwide. The first Avatar won three Oscars, but it was unable (for a time) to surpass Titanic in winning Best Picture. The original Avatar regained the No. 1 spot after its re-release in 2022, ahead of The Way of Water. With more than $2.9 Billion in ticket sales worldwide, Avatar is the No.
Many corners of the film industry are wary of longer films because they earn less money. Cameron has proven that he can draw large crowds despite (or perhaps because of) his epic length of recent works. The Brutalist, which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2013, also showed that the length of films is a subject that media and moviegoers are interested in. […]
Cameron has a limited tolerance for this obsession. He said in 2022 that he couldn’t tolerate “anyone whining about the length of

when they binge-watch it for eight hours.”
