Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, has hidden Jack Skellington from all his films
Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993 cult film), has revealed that he has hidden a Jack Skellington image in each of his films. “If you look closely, you may find an image of Jack Skellington in each film I have made.”
But I can’t legally say that’s true, but it might be true,” Selick said in an
interview with GamesRadar+.The Nightmare Before Christmas
was Selick’s directorial debut. He went on to make James and the Giant Peach (1996), Monkeybone (2001), Coraline (2009), and Wendell & Wild (2022). His films often share stories about alternate realities and worlds. It’s only natural that they would have some Easter eggs or cross-references. He hinted that fans of Coraline
who closely watched the breakfast scene may see that the eggs that The Other Mother cracks look like the King of Halloween. Jack Skellington appeared in other films such as 2010’s Alice In Wonderland, directed by Nightmare Before Christmas producer Tim Burton, in Mad Hatter’s tie and 2003’s Finding NEMin bubbles of Gil’s fish aquarium. Sally and Jack appear in Disney Pixar’s Ralph Breaks the Intern
et. Selick has also put other Easter eggs into his movies, including the Other Father wearing “Monkeybone” slippers in Coraline. The director himself appears in a cameo on the dollar bill in Coraline. Coraline celebrates its 15th birthday this year and is currently enjoying limited rerelease. (Coraline enjoyed great success when it was rereleased last summer). Selick said that Disney has a history of making sequels to their memorable films. He is not interested in this. It’s been talked about for years at different times. I was told ‘Oh, we want to do a sequel, but it has to be CGI’ and I said ‘No, absolutely not,'” Selick explained. “But you don’t want to ruin something by killing the golden goose. A prequel or sequel can ruin that. Want more io9 News? Want more io9 news?
