Find out more about the new Bachelor from Jenn Tran’s Season

5. Grant is a family man, and describes himself in his Bachelorette biography as a “mama’s boy”. Grant opened up on the show about his relationship with dad and his father’s struggle with addiction.

“My father has had an addiction for about 30 years,” Grant told Jenn on their one-on-1 date in New Zealand during the episode of August 5. “Addiction can be a difficult thing. Growing up, my pops meant everything. He was like my hero. He would take me to the parks. He was always drunk or under the influence of some substance. The worst part is that I didn’t even know. You believe everything as a child. Grant continued that his father had lost his job shortly before he appeared on the show. Grant continued, “Sometimes addicts blame.” “So, he blamed everyone: Oh, my boss that. “My boss this.’ I said, “Listen, Dad.” I don’t care. This is the most proud I’ve been of my father. He called me and said, “I’m going to rehab.” Checked into rehabilitation. Since then, we’ve had a conversation and he said, “Listen son, this is the first time you’ve seen the real me without alcohol.” So, I am really leaning on that. He’s been sober for a little less than two months. It’s his first time living too.” It’s also his first time to live.”

And the dad has supported the journey of the reality star.

“I love the man you’ve grown into,” said his father in a sneak preview of this season of The Bachelor. “You are my heart man. “I want you to be happy. You deserve happiness, son. “
