Colin Farrell shares his son James’ battle with rare neurogenetic disorder
Colin said, “Once your children turn 21, they are on their own.” All the safeguards, special education classes–that’s all gone. You’re left then with a young person who, despite being a part of modern society, is often left behind. “
In order to achieve this, Colin Farrell, 48, has created the Colin Farrell Foundation. This organization aims “to transform the lives of families and individuals living with intellectual disabilities through education, awareness and advocacy, and innovative programs. Colin said that he has wanted to “do something” for many years in order to help families with children who have special needs receive the support they deserve. Now that James is nearing 21, Colin feels it’s the right time. Colin believes that James would agree with his father’s choice if he could communicate with him. Why do you ask me? Colin said, “It’s an obvious choice.” So, that’s the reason we’re doing this. All of this is in honor of James. “
I want everyone to be kind to James,” said he. “I wish the world would treat him with respect and kindness. “
