Chocolate Banana Muffins

Last week, I had some bananas I needed to use. I wanted something different from Classic Banana Bread and Blueberry Banana Bread.

I had a craving for chocolate and found this recipe from the Cooking with Bananas cookbook: Breads Cakes Puddings and More! Chocolate Banana Muffins were just what I needed. Whether you’re enjoying them for breakfast, a midday snack, or dessert, chocolate banana muffins are sure to satisfy your cravings.

My husband thought they were really good too but we agree they would be even better with some chopped walnuts so we’ll have to try that next time.

What are Chocolate Banana Muffins?

Chocolate banana muffins are a baked treat that combines the sweet, moist flavor of ripe bananas with the rich, decadent taste of chocolate. The muffins are usually made from flour, sugar and eggs with baking powder and a mix of bananas, cocoa powder and chocolate chips. The bananas add natural sweetness to the muffins and keep them moist. All purpose flour

Baking powder

  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Granulated sugar
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Ripe bananas, mashed
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable oil
  • Whole milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • How to make Chocolate Banana Muffins
  • Preheat the oven to 400deg. Spray or line a 12-cup muffin tin in non-stick cooking spray. Stir until combined.

In another mixing bowl, combine the bananas with the eggs, vegetable oil and milk.

Mix until well combined, then add the dry ingredients. Mix only until the batter is moistened and combined.

Spoon the batter into the muffin cups filling them about 2/3 full. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the toothpick inserted into the middle of the muffins is clean. Remove the muffins from oven. The muffins should be allowed to cool in the pan.

  • Whisk until combined and add to the dry ingredients. Mix only until the batter is moistened and combined. Spoon the batter into the muffin cups filling them about 2/3 full. Bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the muffins comes out clean.
  • Remove the muffins from the oven. Cool the muffins in the pan for 5 minutes.

  • Remove the muffins from the pan and serve warm or at room temperature.
