Bong Joon Ho’s Robert Pattinson Sci-Fi
Today, the official Twitter account of director Bongjoon Ho’s sci-fi movie Mickey 17 posted a short clip with a chilly Robert Pattinson teasing the arrival of the trailer. Pattinson asks his character repeatedly, “What is it like to perish?” The trailer is here and our excitement couldn’t be higher for this one.
Mickey 17, based on the Edward Ashton book Mickey 7, follows a man named Mickey Barnes who, after being scanned by a machine, is tasked with assisting in colonizing an ice planet. The machine is designed to repeatedly reprint Mickey’s body until the task is completed. Mickey’s untimely death could be caused by drowning, freezing or even a zombie buffalo. It is not a big deal. As long as there is only one Mickey at any given time, it’s not a problem. But if a reprint lives past his planned termination date, then the paradox becomes a real issue. Mickey 17 is a grade-A speculative fiction with a baker’s dozen more Pattinsons to add to the drama. The film also stars Steven Yeun Naomi Ackie Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. The original release date for Mickey 17 was March 29, 2024. However, it was pushed to January 31, 2025. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Warner Bros. delayed the release of Mickey 17 due to production changes during the SAG/AFTRA strike. However, the new release date was probably the better choice, as it had to compete with Elio and Kung Fu Panda 4 and A Quiet Place: Day One. Want more io9 news?
