With the iPhone 15 series, Apple has made the jump from their proprietary Lightning Cable to USB-C. Be sure your power bank aligns with this shift.
Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack will wirelessly charge iPhones much faster than more affordable Qi models. You’ll either need a MagSafe compatible phone case or a wireless powerbank. Chargers with high capacity charge faster, but weigh more. This is especially important if you intend to travel with the charger in your purse, backpack or pockets. A power bank is useful even though iPhones are known for their good battery life. If you travel often, use your phone a lot or just want to be prepared, it can be very handy. Some power banks are slim, lightweight and thin enough to fit in your pocket with your phone. Some banks are tanks made of durable materials that can power not only your phone, but also your entire family for several days. The power banks on this list are easy to carry around and offer a great backup plan. While iPhone users are still converting to USB-C from Lightning, all iPhones starting with the iPhone 8 support USB-IF’s fast-charging standards. All power banks on this list, except for two Anker Nanos that have built-in USB connectors/cables which are only compatible with the iPhone 15/16 Series — work with any iPhone if you use the correct cable. You can also choose wireless charging, as companies such as Anker offer Qi2 powerbanks. Qi2-certified chargers are more expensive but offer 15-watt charging capabilities with full MagSafe compatibility. You’ll be able to charge your MagSafe-enabled iPhones or Android phones that support 15-watt charging twice as fast. The best iPhone power banks are the Anker MagGo Power Banks 6.6K and the Qi2-certified Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K
with an integrated kickstand. Anker also released the higher capacity Qi2-certified

with an integrated kickstand.Again, nearly all of the models below will work with any recent iPhone so long as you have your proper Lightning-to-USB-C (iPhone 14 and older) or USB-C-to-USB-C (iPhone 15/16) cable. MagSafe has been a godsend for wireless charging since the iPhone 12. I recommend it to all iPhone users, except two. MagSafe charging is uncomfortable in warmer climates and wireless charging does not work well with heavy duty cases. It is a pocket warmer in winter. In the past two years, 15W MagSafe powerbanks have become more widely available. Initially, MagSafe powerbanks were only 7.5W. While the iPhone 16 series supports 25W MagSafe, there are no power banks available today that support it, and this is unlikely to change in the near future. The products below were all tested by myself or other CNET experts. The list is focused on iPhones. However, any battery pack with USB-C/USB-A ports can be used to charge an Android phone (or other portable gadget) as long as it has a compatible cable. Wireless charging should also work for Android phones that are so configured.

Anker’s magnetic 622 battery has a magnetic flap integrated into it that can be used as a stand. This 5,000mAh battery charges up to 7.5 Watts, but is slim and portable. It charges via USB C, but if you use the USB-C to Lightning adapter to charge your iPhone it will charge faster at 12 watts. It’s not quite as fast as a 20-watt USB C power adapter, but it is faster than 7.5-watts. This is a worthwhile upgrade compared to the older version (which, confusingly, retains the 622 model number).

It is Qi2-certified, which means it offers 15-watt fast charging capabilities and is fully MagSafe compatible. This power bank can charge iPhone 13, 14 and 15 models with MagSafe enabled twice as quickly as standard 7.5-watt wireless chargers. It’s Qi2-certified, which means it offers 15-watt fast charging capabilities and is fully MagSafe compatible, offering twice the speed of standard 7.5-watt wireless chargers for MagSafe-enabled iPhone 13, 14 and 15 models and Android smartphones that support 15-watt wireless charging.
Available in five color options, this model has a foldable design with customizable viewing angles. This model comes with a USB cable but you will need a USB charger that has a higher output than 15 watts to achieve the 15 watt charging speed. The power bank can be used as a wireless charger at home or on the move. The price is high at first, but hopefully it will drop as more and more competitors enter the market.

The Baseus Magnetic Mini Wireless portable charger is a compact wireless charging device that can be used to charge your iPhone with 7.5 watts. It works on iPhones and iPhone cases that have MagSafe functionality. You can charge your iPhone at 20 watts by plugging a USB C to Lightning or USB C to USB C cable into the battery. The battery can be charged while your phone is being charged. The 6,000mAh and 20,000mAh are only available in purple at this time. The 6,000mAh, 20,000mAh and 10,000mAh batteries are currently only available in the color purple — which is actually the best option — but there’s more choice with the 5,000mAh or 10,000mAh if you don’t want to wear such a bright hue.

It’s available in multiple color options. This power bank is available in a variety of colors. This 100-gram 5,000mAh battery weighs 3.5 ounces. The power bank has a 22.5-watt fast charging capability and can charge two devices simultaneously if you connect a USB-C cable to the USB in/out port. Charging two devices at once divides the power by half. Each device receives 11.25 watts.

If you are looking for a larger portable battery, Anker’s 10,000mAh Nano Power Bank with integrated USB-C is one of the best options available. The battery is not large, but it can charge several devices. It has a USB-C port, as well as USB-A and USB-C out ports. The battery can charge your devices up to 30 watts. The LCD display that tells me how much battery is left was also a great feature.

Infinity lab is the new accessory subsidiary of Harman Kardon, which is owned by Samsung. (Got that?) InstantGo 5000 & InstantGo 10000 powerbanks are my favorites. They come with a Lightning cable to charge iPhones easily. (The InstantGo 5000 has been sold out). The 10000 mAh power bank is more expensive and heavier. It can charge the majority of iPhones twice. Both models have a well-designed battery with a grippy surface on top and bottom.

Available in five color options and not much bigger than the MagGo Power Bank 6.6K, this model has a retractable kickstand and an LCD that displays the remaining battery life. This model comes with a USB C cable. However, you will need a USB C charger that has a higher output than 15 watts to achieve the 15 watt charging speed. The power bank can be used as a wireless charger at home or on the move. It’s also a bit pricey, but hopefully it will get cheaper as more companies enter the market. MagGo 10K Power Bank is a better option for those who want a larger battery. The Power Bank 6.6K has a foldable stand that I like a bit better.

If your goal is to find a larger portable battery which charges your phone wirelessly then the Baseus Magnetic Power Bank will be a great option. It has a 10,000 mAh battery, which can charge the iPhones about twice. But it is still compact. The magnet is very strong and it also has a flip-out kickstand that converts it into a stand. The battery also has an LED indicator that shows you how much power is left in the battery (you can see the percentage). Baseus Magnetic Wireless Power Bank comes in three colors, with the black option currently being a little cheaper.

The gallium nitride-based technology has allowed chargers to become more powerful and smaller at the same. Anker’s GaNPrime chargers, featuring the next-generation GaN 3 tech, are a great example of this trend. The company claims that they are even more energy efficient. Anker’s Power Bank 733 is a part of GaNPrime and combines a charger 65 watts with a portable battery 10,000 mAh. The Anker Power Bank 733 is a compact device that offers two USB-C fast-charging ports and one USB-A fast-charging port. It can charge three devices simultaneously, but to charge a laptop to 65 watts, you must plug it in.

You don’t want your phone to go dead on the mountain so it’s always good to pack a battery pack.MyCharge calls its new line of magnetic power banks Superhero MagLock, implying that they’re real saviors. Their design impressed me. The batteries are designed with raised coils to reduce the heat generated while charging. They come in different capacities and have strong magnets. All the MagLock battery chargers charge Qi enabled iPhones at 5 Watts. However, you can get faster charging by using a USB-C to Lightning cable. It’s also nice that there is a chime to let you know when charging begins and the phone will tell you how much power is left on the battery pack. (It’s part of iOS 15). You can wirelessly charge Android devices as well but the MagLock won’t stick unless you have a metal ring on the back of your phone’s case (stick-on rings are available). The SuperHero MagLock is available in a few colors and has a glossy finish. The MagSafe-compatible Powerstation Wireless Stand by Mophie isn’t cheap, but it’s a powerful 10,000-mAh battery that has both a MagSafe charger and a tripod threaded mount built in. Since this is an official MagSafe battery charger, it charges at 15 watts. This makes this one of the fastest wireless external batteries chargers available. It will also charge AirPods 3 or AirPods Pro with MagSafe. You can charge it at 20-watt speed if you use the USB-C to Lightning cable (not provided). Two devices can be charged simultaneously.

If your iPhone or any smartphone is in need of a small external battery, Mophie’s Power Station Mini (2022), a pocketable device with a 5,000mAh internal battery, comes with a 20-watt USB C PD fast charger. If you own an iPhone, you will need a USB C cord to use the fast charging. You can also get the 10,000-mAh model with dual USB-C port for a bit more. It comes in blue or black. Zagg, the parent company of Mophie, also offers a 20% off your first order if you purchase from them.

The updated Champ portable charger from Nimble uses recycled plastic. It’s a little more expensive, but you get a compact charger with a 10,000mAh capacity and dual USB-C port (one on each side of the powerbank) to charge two devices simultaneously. If you are charging two devices, your charging speeds will be limited to 10 watts per device.
Nimble also sells the Champ Lite, a smaller power bank, as well as some higher-capacity fast-charging battery packs.

Lightning vs. USB C
Every iPhone since the iPhone 5 series in 2012, to the iPhone 14 Series in 2022, has used Apple’s proprietary Lightning Connector for charging. Apple made the switch to USB-C with the iPhone 15 series. If you are looking for a powerbank with an integrated cable, the differences between these connectors will only matter. Wireless charging: MagSafe vs.Qi
Most iPhones, since the iPhone 8/X models were introduced in 2017, offer inductive wireless chargers. Apple’s standard is called MagSafe. Power banks that are MagSafe-compatible — such as Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack — will charge iPhones quickly at 15 watts when they magnetically attach to the iPhone’s rear. Other models that are more affordable will also attach magnetically to iPhones, but they’ll charge them at half the speed (7 watts). You’ll always need to ensure that the iPhone is protected by a MagSafe compatible case. Apple has stated that the iPhone 15 Series is compatible with Qi2, but has not yet specified if this includes any advantages over the original Qi, such as higher charging capacity. Weight vs. power capacity
Most basic power banks have a capacity of 5,000 mAh, which is enough to charge an iPhone at least once. Chargers that have a capacity of 10,000 mAh and more are available but weigh more. This is especially important if you intend to travel with the charger. When shopping for an external power bank or battery pack, keep these things in mind:
An increased power rating (called milliamps hours), means that you can charge more devices but the portable charger will be heavier.
Buy a battery that has a minimum 5,000-mAh rating for the latest iPhones. This should provide you with at least one charge. All the models above meet this standard. These best portable chargers all have lithium-ion batteries and should be kept in your carry-on bag when you fly. Airlines and regulatory agencies are increasingly banning li-ion batteries in checked baggage.
If you want maximum power output, opt for chargers with USB-C PD (power delivery) models, which should charge nearly every device smaller than a laptop, such as a tablet or Nintendo Switch.
Multiple integrated charge cables or USB-out ports will allow you to charge more than one device at a time, such as an iPad or another iPhone. You can charge more than one device at a time with multiple integrated cables or USB-out ports, such as an iPad or another iPhone.

At the moment, we are doing anecdotal tests on these models. Each model is charged fully and then used for at least one week under real-world conditions. We confirm that charging speeds and charge times are within the expected parameters. For models with built-in stands or cables, we verify that the connections are strong and that there are no notable issues or concerns.

Anker PowerCore fusion portable charger:
The Anker PowerCore Fusion is a wall charger that has a built-in battery of 5,000 mAh. The charger has two USB ports to charge your phone as well as a second gadget or two phones. It has a USB-A charging port, a fast USB-C charging port (18 watts), and can wirelessly charge devices up to 10 watts. It’s not magnetic, so your phone won’t stick to it but it will wirelessly charge any Qi-enabled devices.
Mophie Snap Plus Juice Pack Mini:
Mophie’s magnetic power bank is similar to Anker’s but is slightly slimmer (it’s suitable for a 5,000-mAh battery) and doesn’t have an integrated flap that converts into a stand. It is designed to adhere to MagSafe-enabled iPhones or MagSafe cases. A “snap-adapter” ring can be used to attach to the backs of Android devices to make them magnet-friendly.

What’s the difference between MagSafe for iPhone and Qi?
MagSafe is Apple’s standard for magnetically attached batteries. It should not be confused with MacBooks, which have the same magnetic connector. Qi wireless chargers do not necessarily require a magnetic component, but they can also be used for inductive charging. MagSafe for iPhone accessories (based on Qi) and Made for iPhone wireless charging chargers should be able to charge the iPhone up to 15 Watts. Unofficial magnetic and wireless chargers will still work, but they are limited to 7.5 Watts and do not have the power management or on-screen indicators of official MagSafe chargers.

Can these iPhone power bank charge other devices?
Yes. These power banks can charge any USB-powered device, including phones, headphones and Bluetooth speakers. Some power banks may charge larger devices, such as iPads, Nintendo Switch and tablets. However, they will do so at a slower rate. If you buy a charger that supports USB-C PD, then it’s more likely to charge larger devices. You can’t charge Chromebooks or laptops without a larger power bank with a higher power output (65 watts or more).

What’s the difference between USB-C, USB-A and Lightning?
Power banks for iPhones invariably have USB inputs and outputs for charging themselves and other devices, respectively. Some power banks come with a single port that can be used for both. The USB-A port has been on computers ever since the late 1990s. The smaller USB-C plug is reversible and can charge faster. Some power banks come with integrated cables terminating in Lightning (iPhone specific) or USB C cables.
