Best Moving Companies in 2025
Reviewing moving companies can be difficult. Since I could not realistically rate every mover’s hauling abilities myself, I relied upon other customers’ experiences. Form GSA3080 is the most reliable source. Government employees use it to evaluate movers when they move for work. This data is then compiled to create a single score for all movers. I removed any interstate movers with a score below average from my list of over 50.
I then looked at each company’s history with the Department of Transportation. Was it able to provide enough drivers for timely cross-country movements? What is the safety record of this company? I eliminated companies that had lower than average scores on vehicle or driver inspections. Then, I tried out the quoting process. I filled out 22 online quotes from movers, and waited to hear my phone ring. The phone quote should take no more than 10 minutes. I scolded any companies who put their sales pitch ahead of my questions, or demanded a large upfront deposit. The best moving companies will request a detailed inventory of items you’re moving before they provide a quote, and they’ll be able to explain their policies in clear, simple language.
Finally, I dug into reviews and complaints with the Better Business Bureau. It was less about a total number, since people only write reviews in the moving industry when they have a problem. Instead, it was about identifying patterns of complaints. I also preferred companies who were certified ProMovers by the American Trucking Association. They’ve been subjected to an annual review, which includes their complaint history.
