The 2026 GMC Hummer Electric Proves that Size Doesn’t Matter : Automotive Addicts
Automotive
It’s not often that you hear a vehicle tipping the scales at over 9,000 pounds being compared to a Porsche 911 GT3 in terms of straight-line performance. In 2025, one of General Motors fastest vehicles is not a sleek Corvette, or even a lightweight sports vehicle. It’s a hulking all-electric 2026 GMC Hummer 3X Pickup. The same supertruck, which looks like it can roll over a hill, now reaches 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. This stat is enough to give muscle car purists some pause. GMC has given the Hummer EV a major boost for 2026. The 3X Pickup trim now boasts 1,160 horsepower, bringing its total to a whopping 1,160. This power bump is achieved via an available 24-module Ultium battery pack, combined with what GMC describes as “optimization of software and propulsion calibration.” While the exact tuning magic isn’t fully revealed, it’s clear that a mix of raw battery output and software intelligence is doing the heavy lifting–literally.
This isn’t just a theoretical number on paper. The Hummer EV’s 0-60 time is 2.8 seconds, which puts it in a class of its own. Its acceleration figures are on par with all-wheel drive EVs such as the Tesla Model S Plaid and supercars. This is a testament to how far EV technology has advanced. The vehicle can also ford streams and steer diagonally using its CrabWalk technology. GMC will also be introducing a new Carbon Fiber Edition trim, available for the Pickup as well as SUV models. This limited-run package features stealthy black tires with all-terrain treads, carbon fiber detailing on the skid plate and mirrors, blacked out badges and, for the SUVs, a blacked out spare tire. This trim is available exclusively in Magnus Gray Matte and gives the Hummer an even more intimidating road (or trail), presence. The rear-wheel steering is sharpened dramatically to improve low-speed maneuverability on off-road terrain. GMC will make this functionality available via over-the-air updates to Hummer EV 2022-2025 owners, a clever move that extends truck tech’s lifecycle. Updated suspension tuning is designed to improve ride comfort on the road, which addresses one of earlier model’s few criticisms. Bidirectional charging capability is also now baked in, letting the Hummer EV power other EVs or even serve as a backup home generator, assuming you’ve got the necessary hardware.
Inside, the tech-focused layout carries over with the 13.4-inch center touchscreen and Google Built-In for seamless navigation and voice assistant functions. Al Oppenheiser is the Chief Engineer for the GMC Hummer Electric Vehicle. He says that the vision of the brand was to continue to evolve the vehicle through software. “All 2026 Hummer EV owners will have access to our latest software going forward,” he noted, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to future-proofing.
Final pricing for the 2026 Hummer EV lineup will be announced closer to its dealership debut later this year. The Hummer EV, however, is not a gimmick. The Hummer EV is a bold, unapologetically powerful blend of strength and engineering. It’s also one of GM’s heaviest vehicles. Welcome to a new era of performance where EVs are continuing to change the game.
