It seems that the brand-new writers of Late Night had a stressful first encounter with the empress in stand-up. We heard that after she took them on a trip to Sin City they were given only saltines and cantaloupe to eat as they worked out their sketch ideas. It’s unknown what happened in that makeshift writers room, but one thing’s for sure — how can anyone write jokes on a diet of salt and the most random choice of fruit?
Perhaps Deborah should have just shipped Ava’s recruits those gifts she sent out to her faves. Perhaps the boost she gave her new writers would have been more motivating than a Vegas getaway. Who knows?
