The family of Roy Ayers released a statement on Facebook confirming that the music icon died in New York City on Tuesday after a long illness. They did not specify the illness.

They ended their statement by saying… “He will be missed.” The family requests that you respect the privacy of his family at this time. A celebration of Roy’s memory will soon be held. “Ayers was best known for his hit “Everybody Loves the Sunshine.” Over the year’s his music has been sampled or covered by everyone, including
