Fan Jin, the global head of Amazon Autos released a press release about the launch of the new service. “We are partnering with brands and dealers to redesign car-shopping–making it transparent, convenient and customer-friendly. Amazon Autos brings the ease and simplicity that customers have come to expect from Amazon, to one of their biggest purchases. It also gives dealers a channel to reach a wider audience. We’re thrilled to have Hyundai as an exclusive launch partner, and we look forward to adding more brands to our program and expanding the selection for customers as it grows. It’s still early for us and we welcome customer and dealer feedback as we continue to add new functionality, expand to additional brands, and iterate on the customer experience.”
How Can it Benefit Dealers? Dealerships are on the decline in the United States. Nissan is considering closing down completely. Some dealers are closing their locations to combat inflation or other economic problems. Amazon Autos connects dealers with millions of potential clients. The service streamlines the entire process, allowing dealers to concentrate on selling cars to their customers. Amazon Autos is changing the way that people search for new cars. You can filter the results according to what you want in a vehicle. Customers can narrow down the vehicles by color, model, trim and other features. After selecting a vehicle, customers can complete their order, secure financing and e-sign documents with just a few clicks. After finalizing their payment information, customers will select a day and time to pick up their new car from that local dealership.
Steven Suh, general sales manager of South Bay Hyundai, weighed in on the Amazon partnership. “Listing our stock on Amazon has changed the way we interact with car buyers.” He said that it allows us to display our vehicles in front of millions of shoppers every day, and set our prices upfront. “We are now able to reach a local audience, with the convenience and transparency customers expect from Amazon. This experience really positions dealers for success in the modernizing economy.” This experience really positions dealers for success in the modernizing economy.”
How it Benefits Customers
Customers will be able to receive a firm trade-in value for their current car. After you answer questions about your car’s condition, an independent third-party will value it. You can use this to purchase a new car. The whole process streamlines the carbuying. You may like it or dislike it, but eventually the majority of carmakers and brands are going to be on this platform. The platform will allow users to search and browse inventory based on preferences. It will ultimately lead to happier clients.
Potential Downsides
There are some potential downsides to the Amazon Autos program. You won’t be able to test drive the vehicle before purchasing it. It’s a difficult thing to do. How can you be sure you want a car if you haven’t driven it? It’s not clear what the return policy is. You’ll have to go into the dealer regardless.
Additionally, one of the things Amazon lists as a perk of this service could potentially be a downfall. The dealer, according to the dealer’s website, offers transparent pricing. There is no negotiation. There is no way to negotiate a price lower if that’s what you want. That’s a major downside.
The Future of Car Dealerships
With many car dealerships closing around the United States, and Nissan in trouble, Amazon Autos could provide a solution. We’ll find out if this new service is a success or not as it launches with Hyundai. What do you think about
