Where to get free pumpkins
Halloween is fast approaching. You probably want to buy pumpkins. You might want to make Jack-o’-lanterns. You might want to decorate for the holidays at the last minute. You might also be craving pumpkin soup. You want pumpkins, no matter what. You don’t even want to spend a lot on them. It’s late in the year. You won’t have much time to enjoy the pumpkins. Are there any places where you can get free pumpkins
7 You can find farms that allow you to pick your own pumpkins for free. You will have to pay for the pumpkins once you’ve picked them. Here are seven places where you can get free pumpkins. It’s worth a shot.
1. U-Pick Farms on Their Last Day
As we just mentioned, you can pick your own pumpkins at pumpkin patches. The pumpkins I saw at the U-Pick Farms were very few. By this time of year, you might find that your local pumpkin patch doesn’t have much to offer. This is not good news for those who are excited to go pumpkin picking. However, it might potentially be good news if you’re looking for places to get free pumpkins.
Find out what the last day is that those “you pick” pumpkin patches are open to the public. You can also go there in the evening when they are about to close. You can ask to speak with the manager, head farmer, head cashier or anyone else you want. Tell them that you have been struggling to get free pumpkins, and you wanted to see what you could do with the remaining ones. They’re often happy to let pick out a few of the pumpkins that are left. They’ll often give you a discount, if they don’t offer free pumpkins.
2. Local Farms that Do Not Offer “You Pick”
If your area has local farms then you may want to see what they offer. If you do not know your neighboring farmers, this may not be the best option. If you have a good relationship with your neighbor, it won’t hurt to inquire if there are any pumpkins that they would be willing to give away this year. Farmers Markets
The same thing applies at your local farmers market. This time of year, many of them sell pumpkins and gourds. If you want to eat the pumpkins, these are the best ones. You can get free pumpkins by going to a farmers’ market late in the season. You also need to respect the fact that farmers make their money this way. You might ask for a discount on pumpkins. You might ask for free pumpkins if you spend a certain amount.
4. Food Banks
Okay now that we have covered the places where you can get free pumpkins, it’s time to cover those that work or don’t. The farmer’s relationship and the pumpkins you receive will depend on your situation. What are your options? Well, check your local food banks. They’re a good resource if you need food. And yes, they do sometimes have pumpkins at this time of year.
Moreover, many food banks do an annual pumpkin giveaway. Some food banks give away just one or a few pumpkins. Some have a large giveaway. Some do raffles. Some have a first-come, first-served policy. Find out what options you have in your area.
5. Grocery Store Pumpkin Giveaways
Many grocery stores offer pumpkin giveaways for Halloween. Usually, these are “enter to Win” contests. You won’t be able to tell if you are able or not to receive free pumpkins. This is a good option if you are hoping to get a pumpkin free and not set on getting one. Children and Family Halloween Events
Communities, schools, and churches often offer free family Halloween events. These events are often great opportunities to obtain free pumpkins. In many of these events, both children and adults can get free pumpkins. They also offer prizes, free carving tools and beverages such as coffee, hot chocolate, and other drinks. Check your local event calendar to see if there are any options.
7. You can also ask your friends, family and neighbors.
I’m aware that people in my neighborhood started buying pumpkins early this year. I think that everyone was excited for fall. Many families have their pumpkins out for display in the neighborhood since weeks. If you ask, some of them will be happy to give away a few pumpkins. This really depends on your relationship with the people. It’s still worth a shot. Facebook, NextDoor and similar sites are worth checking. You might get lucky in the “free” section of Craigslist. Post on social media to let people know you are looking for free pumpkins. Tell them you will accept donations of pumpkins. Share with them your plans for the pumpkins. If they feel like you’re going to get more joy and use out of them than they have been, then they might feel happy to send them your way.
