The 18 Best Fitness Trackers of 2024, Tested and Review

Garmin Forerunner is probably the best running watch. This is Garmin’s most venerable line, which includes the Forerunner 55 ($170), all the way up to the Forerunner 965 (500). All of them have varying specs and features. For example, cheaper models have less-expensive displays and do not have blood oxygen sensors. Garmin’s training algorithms and multiple satellite systems are available to all models. Garmin’s workouts are flexible.

The Forerunners age well. This means that you can get a great deal if you find the last year’s model on sale. (See the Forerunner 255) The Forerunner (8.5/10, WIRED recommends) seems to be a good compromise. The Forerunner 165 is on the cheaper end of the spectrum but has all the features you’ll need. It includes a bright AMOLED screen, an altimeter to get more accurate mileage and a blood-oxygen sensor. The battery life was good, I liked Garmin’s Morning Report which gives you an overview of your stats from the previous night, including how well you slept and the weather. It also tells you how prepared you are for the day. The music version is $50 more and could be a hassle, but it’s still a good option for advanced runners. The

Coros pace 3 ($229) is a sure-fire choice for this position. Because Coros uses a less-battery-intensive screen, the Pace watches are incredibly light, durable, and comfortable, with very long battery life; I wore it for two weeks last fall without having to charge it once. Dual-frequency GPS tracked my interval runs without any problems. (I wanted to know how long I could keep up with Eliud’s pace since he is one of the partners. The answer was “not very much”) It has all the features that more expensive trackers have, such as breadcrumb-based navigation. Its 1980s look and dim screen may turn some people off.
