LuckyChap and Vertigo are producing the film, but we know very little about its look. EA revealed details of upcoming games, but not The Sims 5. The companies have not revealed details about the story or characters of the film. However, Katy Gorman from EA, the GM for The Sims franchise told Variety that “you will see the ‘Sims’ universe coming to life, and you will also see the classic experiences our players had in the games being brought to life in this movie. I’m certain a pool without ladder is in there but we haven’t finalized those details.” It’s a nod to all of the amazing play, creation and fun that people have had over the last 25 years within The Sims.” The company also shared other details on the future of its life-sim franchise, such as how players can socialize and have fun with the game. It revealed that Project Rene, its mysterious next-generation project, will have an invite-only playtest in fall, where players can try out a multiplayer component and experience playing together at a shared location.

The Sims 4 and other near-future projects

Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment, said in the company’s Investor Day presentation that they’re disrupting its traditional sequel model by creating a massive Sims platform, rather than restarting with a new game. It plans to update and modernize The Sim 4 to create its new model. This will be in addition to Project Rene which is an “entirely different Sims experience”. The cozy spinoff MySims will also be revived with the launch of a bundle for the Switch called My Sims Cozy Bundle. It’s a first, despite the large and active creator community. Miele revealed that the company was working on The Sims Project Stories, which is a mobile game for creating and sharing stories in The Sims universe. EA plans to connect all of these experiences with a shared social network.

Miele said that the franchise has longstanding emotional connections with its audience, and it has invested in its community. We know that The Sims’ potential is unlimited, as it lies at the intersection of creation, gaming, human experience, and social engagement. Stay in the loop!
