AVATR, a Chinese manufacturer, collaborates with Kim Jones of Dior to unveil AVATR 012
AVATR was founded in Chongqing in 2018, with the support of Changan Automobile, a giant Chinese battery manufacturer, and CATL. The company’s mission is to explore future-oriented mobility, and create an intelligent user experience. AVATR, inspired by the “avatar”, aims to allow users to create an alternate self in a parallel intelligent world. It will become “your most intelligent emotional companion”. Enter the AVATR 012 — a one-of-a-kind luxury automotive experience that sees the best of European fashion merge with China’s Electric Vehicle (EV) technology.

Unveiling the AVATR 012
Co-developed with Kim Jones, creative director of Dior Men and artistic director of Fendi Women’s, the AVATR 012 is a limited-edition masterpiece that represents a new era of luxury in the automotive industry. The AVATR 012 is a limited-edition model that combines high-fashion aesthetics and advanced automotive engineering. It succeeds the AVATR 011, a collaboration between 1017 ALYX9SM co-founder Matthew M. Williams. This new luxury car is a testament to AVATR’s commitment in pushing the boundaries of luxury within the electric vehicle industry.
AVATR’s Design Philosophy
The AVATR 012 is the physical embodiment of AVATR’s ethos to be a user-centric premium brand, where every detail is meticulously crafted to provide the ultimate futuristic luxury experience. The AVATR’s four-seat layout combines traditional craftsmanship with futuristic design. It offers a spacious, comfortable cabin that is enhanced by graphene heat technology for optimal health. The interior is adorned with finely stitched Nappa leather that has been sustainably tanned.
Innovative technologies are seamlessly integrated. The interior’s starry ceiling, with its 64-colour patterns of ambient lighting and 64-colour starry patterns, creates an enchanting and personal atmosphere. Meanwhile, the nano water ionizer ensures that the environment is fresh and clean. The hollow-structured 21-inch forged alloy wheels offer lightweight performance as well as a futuristic look, reflecting the vehicle’s blend of motion. The car’s high-gloss polishing finish complements its liquid silver exterior and adds to its aesthetic appeal.
Kim Jones’s Inspiration
AVATR 012’s aesthetic design was heavily inspired by Kim Jones’ home. The exterior of the car is a liquid silver, which reflects the architecture and boldness of Kim Jones’ home. It has a metallic sheen with a flowing, silky texture, exuding dynamism. The interior colours were inspired by Kim Jones’ architectural influences and design language. The sophisticated blend of ivory, white and brown tones in the luxury vehicle echoes designer Kim Jones’ own living room and signature fashion items.

Kim commented on the collaboration, saying “This is my very first time working on an automobile — a challenge that required me to translate the luxury to which I am accustomed into automotive design. The AVATR-012 is inspired my home. It’s an extension of me, and it reflects my lifestyle. This car is not just a mode of transport; it is a personal statement”.
