The 6 Best Hotels In Los Angeles (Updated for 2024).

I didn’t really like Los Angeles. It was too sprawled out for me and I didn’t enjoy the vibes. I felt that there was not much “to do” in comparison to places like Paris, London, or Tokyo. Once I stopped trying so hard to fit Los Angeles in the tourist stereotype and gave it a chance I began to really appreciate LA’s laid-back style and unique charm. It was then that I fell in love, and I think you will as well. It’s a city built for residents, not tourists.

But, if you (like me) are a visitor, you’ll still need a great place to stay. The hotel you choose can make or ruin a trip. The city is spread out so where you choose to stay can have a huge impact on the sights you will see and how long you will spend in traffic. I’ve stayed at many hotels in Los Angeles. Here’s my list of favorite hotels to help you enjoy a memorable time in the City of Angels:

1. The Kinney

The Kinney is a lively three-star boutique in Venice Beach. It really captures the laid-back and artistic spirit of the city. The hotel has a youthful and fun character with its colorful décor, quirky art installations and retro-inspired furniture. The hotel has a number of amenities, such as a heated pool outside, a stylish lounge with fire pits and bike rentals. The central courtyard of the hotel is a social hub, called The Quad. It has ping-pong tables and a lounge area that’s perfect for relaxing and meeting other travelers. The stylish rooms also have a quirky feel, with colorful artwork and wooden furniture. While a little dated, the bathrooms are spacious and decorated with colorful artwork and tiles. The bathrooms are also equipped with fluffy bathrobes and complimentary toiletries. Underground parking is available (rare in LA) and it’s perfect for a road trip to SoCal.

This four-star contemporary hotel is located in the iconic Beverly Hills. Sixty has sleek, modern interiors that combine mid-century design (such as geometric shapes, minimalist wood furniture, and large open spaces). The rooftop lounge and pool with panoramic views of the city is my favorite. The trendy restaurant and bar on site serves craft cocktails and inventive cuisine. The rooms are large and feature hardwood floors, custom furniture, luxurious bedding and floor-to ceiling windows with stunning views of Beverly Hills and the LA skyline. Some rooms also have balconies. The amenities include a writing table, plush bedding and a flatscreen television. There is also a Nespresso machine. Bathrooms feature marble countertops with rainfall showers and luxury bath products. It’s the ideal choice for travelers seeking a stylish stay in one of LA’s most prestigious neighborhoods.

3. Charlie Chaplin lived in this historic building from 1915. The building has been transformed into a three-star chic hotel that perfectly captures the eclectic, bohemian feel of Venice Beach. The hotel is just a few steps from Muscle Beach and they have beach chairs and umbrellas available for guests to use. All rooms offer stunning views of the ocean, which is great for waking up to. The beds are super comfy with fluffy down pillows. Beautifully tiled walk-in bathrooms feature Aesop products and soft bathrobes. This is the best place to stay if you want to splash out on a stay in one of LA’s most famous neighborhoods.

Shutters on the Beach is a luxurious five-star hotel that exudes a classic, coastal charm reminiscent of a grand beach house. This seaside hotel is located directly on the Santa Monica sands. It has a welcoming yet elegant atmosphere with art pieces displayed all over the walls. The hotel has a wide range of amenities including a full service spa, an oceanfront hot tub and pool, and multiple dining venues (one serving breakfast), all of which serve fresh, local cuisine. The hotel is beachy with bright, airy rooms. The hotel also features hardwood floors, Tibetan rugs of high quality, local artwork, and small in-room libraries. All the amenities that you would expect from a high-end hotel are available in these rooms. Plush bathrobes and slippers are also available, as well as premium bath products. Many rooms have private balconies that offer stunning ocean views. This is the ideal retreat for those looking to relax in luxury.

5. CitizenM Los Angeles
This 4-star-hotel is perfect for modern travelers who are looking for convenience, comfort and style without spending a fortune. This brand is a favorite of mine (they are huge in Europe), and I love its minimalist interiors with vibrant art. The communal areas are great for working or relaxing, from the living room lobby to the rooftop with its panoramic views. The breakfast buffet is really expansive too with pastries, healthy choices, and hot dishes like scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausages.

Part of citizenM’s concept is to offer one room type that’s compact yet thoughtfully designed to optimize the space. All rooms feature fridges, king-sized comfy beds, fluffy pillows and blackout blinds to help you sleep. The bathrooms have a compact design, but are also well-designed. They feature rain showers as well as citizenM’s signature products with “AM” and “PM” scents. The rooms are also very bright and airy with their wall-to-wall glass windows. It’s a stylish hotel that is both functional and inviting, ideal for travelers who are looking to stay near the art museums in DTLA. Do not miss The Last Bookstore, located just across the street. This is my favorite bookshop in the city, and I recommend it to all fellow book lovers.

6. Andaz West Hollywood

This five-star hotel by Hyatt is the place to be if you want modern luxury right on the iconic Sunset Strip. It was the first hotel along the Sunset Strip! This brand is great and the location features many open, airy spaces with local artists. But the rooftop pool is what makes this hotel stand out. Come up to the rooftop pool to relax or to take panoramic pictures. The complimentary wine is a nice touch. It’s offered between 4pm and 5:30pm each evening. The rooms are stylish and spacious, with floor-to ceiling windows that offer sweeping views either of the Hollywood Hills or Los Angeles Skyline. Each room is minimalist in style, with flatscreen TVs and Bluetooth speakers. There’s also a minibar that includes non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. The beds are comfortable, and the workstations are spacious. The bathrooms are stylish and feature walk-in showers with spacious walk-ins, plush bathrobes, as well as complimentary designer toiletries.
Andaz in West Hollywood is the ideal choice for first time visitors to the city. It’s in the middle of everything you want to see. Since it’s a Hyatt hotel, you can also book suites and rooms on points. (If you want to know more about points and miles in general, check out this post).
