Robert De Niro Turns Attention To Tribeca Lisbon

Robert De Niro announced the launch of Tribeca Lisbon yesterday by saying that he would approach the new festival with the “same attitude” as the 22-year old U.S. event. The double Academy Award winner said yesterday at a New York reception: “Twenty two years ago, Jane [Rosenthal], my wife, and I started the Tribeca Festival in response to 9/11’s devastation. We wanted to revitalize our neighborhood by using the power of art, film, and storytelling. The mission is the same. De Niro attended the event along with Whoopi Goldberg and Tribeca cofounder Rosenthal. The Mayor of Lisbon Carlos Moedas and U.S. The Ambassador to Portugal Randi Charno Levine, and the CEO of Grupo Impresa Francisco Pedro Pinto Balsemao. The first Tribeca Lisbon is scheduled for October 17-19.

David attenborough presents BBC Landmark “Asia”

David Attenborough has not yet retired from his role as a presenter. The 98 year old has boarded Asia – the landmark BBC natural history series exploring Asia. The latest series from BBC Studios Natural History Unit will take viewers to places like the Gobi Desert and jungles of Borneo. It will also explore the Siberian polar wilderness, coral seas in the Indian Ocean, and the Gobi desert. Attenborough, who has presented less in the past few years, has still hosted a number BBC shows as well as Netflix series such A Life on Our Planet. Sreya Biwas, BBC Head for Natural History Commissioning said, “We are delighted that Sir David Attenborough will be presenting BBC One’s fantastic new landmark series Asia.” Asia is a continent steeped in beauty and intrigue with some of the most wonderfully diverse habitats on the planet.”

UK’s TV Collective Launches Content Fund At Festival

EXCLUSIVE: The UK’s TV Collective is to launch a content fund and accelerator scheme at its Live Festival later this month, which will feature talks from the likes of Big Zuu, Akala and creatives behind Netflix’s Supacell. Both programs are part of TV Collective’s bespoke support for Global Majority talent who continue to be disproportionately impacted financially by the decline in TV commissioning. TV Collective will award its first content fund at the Live Festival. The fund winner will receive PS5000. Rajesh Thindi, Defiance: Fighting The Far Right, and Paul Garnes from Ava DuVernay’s Array will also be speaking at the festival. TV Collective CEO Simone Pennant stated: “Even though our Breakthrough Leaders programme has helped over 200 global majority talents at senior levels of TV progress their careers, many of us, given the economic challenges, are still in survival mode.” TV Collective hopes that these new initiatives will continue to inspire the community to thrive and not just to survive.

Pluto TV adds CNN International and other news networks to its lineup.
Pluto TV, owned by Paramount, has added international news channels to the service. Pluto TV’s CNN International service will be available in the UK, Germany Switzerland and Austria. Pluto TV will launch CNN Fast in several European countries and Canada. The channel is a collection of short videos from CNN covering entertainment, sports, business and major news. Pluto will debut four pubcaster channels in Canada: CBC News Explore (CBC News Toronto), CBC News British Columbia, and Radio-Canada Info. The Reuters service, which provides global news coverage, will be launched in the UK, Nordics, and Canada.
