Greg McLean to Direct Supernatural Thriller The First Exorcist
EXCLUSIVE: Wolf Creek director Greg McLean will write and direct The First Exorcist, a supernatural thriller out of Australia.
We can reveal that McLean’s Emmy Creek Pictures will be working with Mark Fennessy Helium on the film. The production will be in Victoria, Australia with a shoot date of 2025 planned. Casting will be announced soon.
The First Exorcist has been described as “a spellbinding fusion between religious and supernatural events in Biblical times,” where a mother embarks on a harrowing journey to save her child from demonic possession. The plot reads as follows: “As the lives of the mother and daughter descend into nightmares, she learns about a mysterious healer who has the power to expel demonic possessions. She embarks on a perilous race against time to find this healer in order to save her daughter’s soul.”
It is planned to use the latest virtual production technology in Victoria to bring ancient cities to life.
McLean’s 2013 Australian Outback horror Wolf Creek, and its sequel Wolf Creek 2, are well-known. He directed the Stan TV show based on Wolf Creek. He also wrote The Darkness starring Kevin Bacon and John C. McGinley. He directed the 2017 film Jungle, starring Daniel Radcliffe in the role of Yossi Ginsberg. He has also directed episodes for NBC’s La Brea and The Twelve. McLean makes his films via Emu Creek but recently launched Huge Pictures in partnership with Patrick Hughes to make elevated genre TV shows.
