Michael Keaton Credits Tim Burton For MCU & DCU Success
Michael Keaton, who is reprising one of his most popular roles, gives credit to Hollywood for one of its most lucrative trends.
Keaton, the Academy Award-nominated director of Beetlejuice and Beetlejuice said that Tim Burton deserves “enormous credit” for the influence he has had on the MCU, DCU, and other franchises. Keaton believes this began when Burton cast him as Batman in 1989’s Batman.
Keaton said to GQ that Burton “changed everything”. “I don’t know for sure, but it’s possible that there would be no Marvel Universe or DC Universe without Tim Burton. He was questioned and doubted.”
Burton chose Keaton to portray Batman in Batman Returns, too, after working with him the previous year on Beetlejuice, despite the fact that many were against it at the time.
Michael: “He’s not given himself enough credit by saying, ‘Yeah that guy. You worked with him, right? But I believe what happened is that Tim saw Clean and Sober 001010. I get credit. I don’t think he was given enough credit for that move. “That was a brave move.”

Keaton’s most recent superhero role was in The Flash last year, which featured an AI version of Burton’s Superman played by Nicolas Cage after their 1998 film Superman Lives failed to launch.
In Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, premiering on Sept. 6, Keaton reprises the ghoul’s role as Lydia Deetz, Winona Ryder, and her daughter Astrid, Jenna Ortega, return home. Astrid discovers a gateway to the afterlife.
