Game Science announced today that the recently released Soulslike RPG Black Myth Wukong sold 10,000,000 units across all platforms. The game was released on August 20, three days earlier. The game has one of Steam’s highest concurrent player count of all-time, and according to reports, is driving high sales for PlayStation 5 consoles. The high-end graphics, transformational (literally) gameplay, and cultural connection resonated strongly with Chinese gamers…”
The game’s success is also measured in player count — its currently the most-played single-player title in Steam’s history, according to SteamDB, and is second in most-played ever only to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Daniel Camillo, a consultant at X, said that PS5 sales in China’s biggest electronics market are very high thanks to Wukong. Lisa Cosmas Hanson, CEO of Niko Partners, confirmed to Bloomberg in an interview that Wukong was driving high console sales through Alibaba. Game Science was criticized for the sexist comments made by its founders. When PC Gamer asked about this, Game Science responded with “No comment.” Game Science has apologized for the performance problems reported by multiple gamers. However, none of this seems to have cut into the game’s sales.[Black Myth: Wukong]Join us for GamesBeat Next!
