The Best 5 Hotels in Mexico City Updated for 2024
Mexico is a vibrant metropolis with amazing art, great food, a fun nightlife, parks that stretch for miles, and cool neighborhoods. It was a great city. I’m sorry I didn’t visit sooner. It’s an amazing city.
Colloquially known as CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico), Mexico City is a world-class destination that’s absolutely worth a visit. It’s a huge, sprawling metropolis. The city is awash with hotels, so choosing the best one to ensure a pleasant and safe stay is important.
Having visited the city several times and even led tours, I know which hotels are worth it. Here is my list of the hotels I consider to be the best in Mexico City.
1. Zocalo Central Mexico City
Located in a building from the late 19th century, this four-star property is ideally located on the Zocalo square. The rooftop bar offers a stunning view of the main square. I also love the fact that breakfast is provided for free every morning. You can choose from Mexican food or continental staples such as yogurt and granola. The hotel offers free bikes, a fitness centre, and a sauna. The 24/7 cafe located in the lobby offers a unique perk. All items are complimentary (pastries, coffee, teas, fruit, sandwiches and other snacks). On every floor, there are fridges with free fruit and water. If only all hotels offered amenities such as these! The guest rooms are moody and historic with dark hardwood floors, stormy gray walls, wood beam ceilings, even chandeliers. You can sleep well even though you are right on the square. The double-glazed windows allow you to shut out the noise. Each room has a desk and TV with a plus-sized screen, air conditioning, a safe, and coffee maker. Bathrooms are small, but have showers that provide excellent water pressure and complimentary toiletries. The location is excellent if you are looking to be near many of the main attractions in the city.

2. Hotel Villa Condesa
This boutique hotel in Condesa has the same style and elegance as its surrounding area. The hotel is housed in an old mansion from the 19th century and has a cool courtyard inside that provides a tranquil oasis in a busy city. A complimentary breakfast is served here every morning too (definitely try the chilaquiles and the huevos rancheros)!
Every one of the fifteen spacious and comfortable suites is different. The suites are all different. Some have colorful walls, couches and furniture, while others feature antique furniture, hardwood floors and stately décor. All rooms have a flatscreen television and desk. Some even feature balconies. Bathrooms are small, but come with complimentary toiletries and bathrobes. The rooms are small, but they feel cozy and comfortable. Staff is friendly and welcoming.

3. Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico
This historic Art Nouveau Hotel was originally built in 1899 as a department shop and then converted to a hotel during the 1968 Olympics. This five-star hotel has been featured in many James Bond movies. Its lobby features a Tiffany stained glass ceiling, wrought iron elevators, and balustrades. The hotel is located right next to the Zocalo and has two Mexican restaurants as well as a gym. The breakfast buffet is a great way to enjoy the views of the Zocalo. It can be noisy in the rooms that face the main square if you are right on it. If you prefer a quieter experience, you can ask for an interior room. The large rooms feature classic wooden furniture, which is in keeping with the history of the hotel (the suites have four-poster bed curtains). You’ll find a big TV, work desk, seating area, mini bar, coffee maker and safe in either a room or suite. Bathrooms are also spacious, with bathrobes and slippers as well as complimentary toiletries. Some rooms have bathtubs as well as walk-ins. This is the perfect choice for history buffs who are interested in seeing the sites surrounding the Zocalo.

4. Green Park Hotel
Housed within a stunning Art Deco structure, the Green Park Hotel is located directly across from Chapultepec Park, Mexico City’s largest green oasis. It is also located in Polanco, the posh district that’s known as “Beverly Hills of Mexico”. The rooftop bar offers a great place to relax, and the breakfast included in the price is not bad. The arched floor to ceiling windows offer views of the adjacent park and the courtyard. These luxurious suites feature a nice desk, a sitting area, and an HDTV. Large marble bathrooms come with a walk-in shower and a Jacuzzi, as well as toiletries and bathrobes. It’s a nice choice for a refined stay in a classy neighborhood.

5. Agata Hotel
If your search is for a hotel in a different part of the city than the usual, then this stylish hotel in Coyoacan is the perfect choice. It is located in the bohemian Coyoacan area, where Frida Kahlo lived and now has a museum. Her home is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The boutique hotel has only four rooms and the staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a memorable stay. I love that it’s served on the terrace too. The spacious rooms have been decorated in neutral colors with wooden accents and ceiling lights that resemble upside-down baskets. The rooms all have a Nespresso machine and a safe. They also come with a plus-sized television, a TV, and a Nespresso. Some rooms even include a balcony. Bathrooms are gorgeous, with brick walls exposed, walk-in rain showers, deep soaking bathtubs and plush robes. This hotel is a perfect place to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing stay.
