2024 was a wild ride — and we’re in for more of a fight
It’s hard to believe that this is The Fallout’s last issue for 2024. It’s been a great year. We survived two abortion cases in the Supreme Court together. We heard story after story about the emotional and medical trauma that patients suffered as a result abortion bans. Garnet Henderson reported from Brazil on the far-right’s anti-abortion tactics that are being imported by Brazil. Garnet Henderson’s reporting has never been more relevant. For the first time, hormonal birth control is now available over the counter. This is thanks to the tireless work of researchers and advocates. No matter what the election, voters across the nation voted for abortion access and rights. While there is still much work to be done to reform federal courts, Joe Biden’s departure will see him leave office with over 230 federal court judges, of which approximately 60% are people of colour. We all know that the next administration will be chaotic. And we also know that this chaos will hit our most vulnerable communities hardest. Community is the key to what conservatives will be bringing in the coming year. We are stronger when we work together. That’s why conservative leadership believes in dividing the country. We cannot allow them to succeed in 2025. While I don’t know precisely what the year ahead holds, I do know that Rewire News Group will be here, delivering the analysis, commentary, and reporting that cuts through that chaos and noise and that centers communities and lived experiences.
Thank you, readers, for taking this ride with us.
